English lies at the heart of the curriculum and is fundamental to children's learning, development and future success. Through the English curriculum, pupils develop the skills they need to communicate effectively, express themselves creatively and engage critically with the world around them.

At Samlesbury, we aim to foster a love of language and literature, alongside teaching the technical skills needed to read fluently, write confidently and speak articulately in a range of contexts.

Our English curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum for England, ensuring that all pupils:

  • read fluently and with understanding;
  • write clearly, accurately and creatively for a range of purposes and audiences;
  • use spoken language confidently to express ideas, ask questions and participate in discussion.
