Important Information
PE is taught on Mondays - children will need to wear their PE kit to school.
The children are given reading books that align with their phonetic abilities. These books will be changed on Reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We recommend children read with an adult for 20 minutes per day, including spending time talking about what they have read, answering questions about the book and predicting what could happen next. The children will also choose a book from our school library. We do not expect the children to be able to read their library books, we would like you to share the book with your child. Library books will be changed each Friday.
On Monday afternoons, each year group will take turns to visit Forest School with Mrs Kearns. Please ensure children have a pair of wellies and waterproofs in school ready for these sessions.
Children in the EYFS learn through a balance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities. The timetable is carefully structured so that children have daily rigorous directed teaching in English, maths, handwriting and phonics. Adult led teaching sessions to support the children’s learning across the wider EYFS curriculum are carefully planned out across the school year. This ensures that we offer an EYFS curriculum in which children develop both breadth and depth of knowledge and skills.
Children in Years 1 and 2 usually spend a term looking at the same topics within each of their subject areas and you can find out more about this but looking at at our Curriculum Overview or by reading our Curriculum News.
